Aman was founded in 1988 by Adrian Zecha, who built the first property, Amanpuri, on a stretch of coast in Phuket he had originally meant as a private holiday home. The buildings are typically low, built from local stone and timber, and designed around glass walls and private terraces rather than shared resort space. Dining leans on what is local to each property rather than a single house style repeated worldwide, and can typically be arranged in more than one setting: a private beach dinner, an in-villa meal, or the resort's own dining room, depending on what the couple wants and what the property has to offer.
Romantic Venues for Every Moment
Two properties show the range: Aman Venice's Ballroom, on the Grand Canal, seats up to 80 for dinner beneath 18th-century frescoes and gilt stuccowork; Amanpulo, a private island in the Philippines, runs its own Wedding Blessing ceremony on the beach, officiated locally, with none of the formality a fresco-hung ballroom implies. Each property has its own on-site events team rather than a shared central one, which is part of why a wedding at Amanzoe and a wedding at Amanpulo are planned so differently: the team for each resort knows only that resort's own logistics, weather, and suppliers.
