Château de Ferrières was built for Baron James de Rothschild in the middle of the 19th century, the grandest château raised in France in its age. The Baron entrusted it to Joseph Paxton, the English architect of the Crystal Palace, asking for a house in the manner of Mentmore, but twice as large. Its interiors, composed by Eugène Lami, turn around a soaring top-lit Hall of Honour ringed by a gilded gallery, and the house was inaugurated in 1862 in the presence of Napoléon III. Held by the Rothschild family until 1975, it stands today in a 135-hectare park with a lake, thirty minutes from central Paris, offering thirteen salons and open-air ceremonies for grand destination weddings on the doorstep of the capital.

Seasonal French Menus, Staged Across the Estate.

Dining is led by the house, with an in-house catering team and the chef of the bistronomic restaurant Le Chai composing seasonal French menus from fresh produce and creative, terroir-led recipes. Receptions are staged in the gilded salons, on the park terrace beneath the century-old cedars, and in the park itself, with cocktails and buffets among the trees. Le Chai, with its grand dining room and glass véranda over the park, hosts private dinners and rehearsal celebrations, paired with a French wine list and cocktails. The château arranges furniture, table settings, and high-end service for every wedding.

When Baron James de Rothschild set out to build a house worthy of the family, he turned to Joseph Paxton, the English architect and gardener who had raised the Crystal Palace in London, asking for a château in the manner of his cousins' Mentmore, but twice the size. Paxton answered with the largest and most lavish château built in France in the 19th century, its rooms composed by the painter Eugène Lami around a top-lit central hall hung with masterworks. One of its salons is named for Antonin Carême, the celebrated chef who had cooked for the Rothschilds. The château was inaugurated in December 1862 in the presence of Napoléon III, who planted a commemorative tree in the park, and it remained a Rothschild seat until 1975. A wedding here is held inside that history, on an estate built to receive emperors, half an hour from Paris.
