A £70 Million Restoration

A Grade II* Hall, Brought Back to Life.

Grantley Hall was built by the Norton family in the Palladian style in the late 17th century; their descendant Fletcher Norton became Solicitor General, Speaker of the House of Commons, and 1st Lord Grantley in 1782. In 1900 the estate passed to the shipping magnate Sir Christopher Furness, later 1st Baron Furness, and it was his wife, Lady Jane Furness, who laid out the Japanese Garden around 1910, one of the earliest in the UK. After years of decline, Valeria Sykes bought the hall in 2015 and restored it over four years at a cost of around £70 million, reopening it in June 2019 as one of the finest five-star country house hotels and spas in the country. A wedding here is held inside that restored grandeur, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
