The estate takes food more seriously than almost any venue of its kind. On the grounds sits Grace & Savour, built into the walled garden, which holds a Michelin star awarded in 2023. Wedding menus are a separate thing, cooked in-house by the Manor's own kitchen, but the standard the restaurant sets carries through the whole estate. Much of what ends up on the wedding table is grown a few steps from where it is served, in planted rows and old fruit trees behind the brick walls.

The ceremony has two very different moods to choose between. The Birches is a rustic barn of brick and exposed beams, warm and characterful, the kind of room that needs almost no dressing. The Courtyard is its opposite: a glass-roofed atrium beneath the steepled clock tower that fills with daylight and seats up to 160, or up to 200 with a pergola extension. A steepled parish church adjoins the estate for couples who want a church wedding close to home.

Inside, the house is a study in the Arts and Crafts revival, done with a modern eye. Bedrooms are layered in peacock and pomegranate Morris papers, deep velvet, antique chests and rich colour, each one individually designed. There are 24 across the estate: fifteen in the Manor House, five immersive Walled Garden Suites set among the planting, and a four-bedroom cottage overlooking the garden. The wedding takes the Manor House rooms, so the party sleeps in the house.

Exclusive use is the point. A couple takes the Manor House for the day, extendable to midnight, with The Courtyard hired alongside for the wedding breakfast and the evening. Drinks move through the walled garden, guests wander the 45 acres, and because everyone stays on the estate the day never feels rushed. It spreads either side of itself, a walk in the garden before, a slow breakfast after, a weekend rather than an afternoon.

There is a discipline to the catering that some couples will love and others should know about. It is in-house only; no external caterers are brought in, apart from ice-cream, and menus are chosen after a tasting from the Manor's seasonal repertoire, with the option of a spiced Asian feast served family-style for sharing. What you gain in return is food genuinely tied to the estate, cooked by a team who grow a good deal of it themselves.

For a couple who cares about the table as much as the setting, Hampton Manor is a rare thing: a design-led Victorian house on a green estate, a rustic barn and a clock-tower atrium to marry in, a walled garden to wander, and a kitchen that treats a wedding breakfast as something worth remembering. Ten minutes from an airport, and a world away from one. A country wedding that tastes of its place.
